Steve Hayes is the Director of Bands for the Roanoke-Benson School District in Roanoke, Illinois. Under Steve’s direction, 50% of the Roanoke-Benson High School students are members of the high school band. As a jazz saxophonist, Steve performs with the Central Illinois Jazz Orchestra.
Steve is one of the founding facilitators of #BYOTchat (http://www.byotchat.com/) on Twitter. He is an ardent supporter of educational technology. In addition to his teaching duties, Steve also serves as his school district’s webmaster and director of the district’s BYOT program. His belief that good teachers should never stop being students was a driving force behind’s Steve’s desire to start #BYOTchat.
Steve lives in Roanoke with his wife, Liz -a special education instructor, and his daughter, Samantha. The Hayes family are supporters of the St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and Make-A-Wish Foundation.
